US News: Blackout: Defense Department Blocks All Articles About NSA Leaks From ‘Millions’ of Computers

The Defense Department's news blackout affects millions of computers around the world.

The Department of Defense is blocking online access to news reports about classified National Security Agency documents made public by Edward Snowden. The blackout affects all of the department’s computers and is part of a department-wide directive.

“Any website that runs information that the Department of Defense still considers classified” is affected, Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Damien Pickart told U.S. News in a phone interview.

According to Pickart, news websites that re-report information first published by The Guardian or other primary sources are also affected.

“If that particular website runs an article that our filters determine has classified information… the particular content on that website will remain inaccessible,” he said.

Pickart said the blackout affects “millions” of computers on “all Department of Defense networks and systems.”

Politico: George W. Bush’s NSA director Michael Hayden praises Obama

Gen. Michael Hayden, former National Security Agency Director under George W.  Bush, praised the Obama administration’s transparency regarding the NSA’s  surveillance of phone records.

“The Obama administration was more transparent .. than we were in the Bush  administration,” Hayden told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Wednesday. “They made this  metadata collection activity available to all the members of Congress, not just  all the members of the intelligence committees

Hayden’s comments come after current NSA Director Keith Alexander defended the  NSA program in a Senate Appropriations Committee earlier in the day, saying that  it has prevented “dozens of terrorist events.”

Hayden said the same was true during his time at the NSA.

“We did have a whole series of intelligence reports that came out of that  program that would not otherwise have been available,” Hayden said of what is  now called the Terrorist Surveillance Program, the equivalent policy during his  tenure.

Hayden went on to criticize leaker Edward Snowden, saying that to be a true  whistleblower, “you need to raise your hand within the institution.”

The Liberty Report Take: A ringing endorsement from anything Bush Administration related on managing terrorism and giving up freedom for the sake of security might be worth exactly one Bernanke buck.

Mayhew was attending "Star Wars Weekends," the theme park's celebration of the famous Star Wars film saga. It was recently announced by Lucasfilm Ltd. that Mayhew, who stands 7'3" tall, will again star as the giant Wookiee in the next installment of the Star Wars films. He may have helped pilot the Millennium Falcon, but Chewbacca still can’t get  a break from the TSA.

“Star Wars” star Peter  Mayhew, who played Han Solo’s furry companion in the sci-fi series, had his  light saber-shaped cane confiscated by security agents while attempting to catch  a flight from Denver to Dallas.

“Won’t allow me through the airport with my cane!” the 7 foot 2 inch actor tweeted. “Giant  man need giant cane. Small cane snap like toothpick. Besides, my light saber is  just cool. I’d miss it.”

Luckily, The Sun reports, Mayhew,69, harnessed the power of social  media to pressure agents into allowin him to fly with his space-aged  weapon-looking walking stick.

'Giant man need giant cane. Small cane snap like toothpick. Besides, my light saber is just cool. I'd miss it,' Mayhew tweeted, posting a picture of befuddled-looking security agents assessing his walking stick.

‘Giant man need giant cane. Small  cane snap like toothpick. Besides, my light saber is just cool. I’d miss it,’  Mayhew tweeted, posting a picture of befuddled-looking security agents assessing  his walking stick.

“American Airlines won’t let me through the airport with me cane!” he  informed his followers. “can I get a retweet?”

Apparently the Wookiee’s fans heard his plea.

“Magic words to TSA are not ‘please’ or ‘thank you,’ it’s ‘Twitter,” Mayhew  wrote. “Cane released to go home.”

The Libert Report Take:  Why on earth would the TSA even CONSIDER taking a man’s light saber CANE?  Did they think it was real or dangerous?  As soon as it went viral over Twitter they “decided” to let him have it back…. hmmmm…….

Below is a link to the article and a photo of this hazardous cane.  Peter, may the force be with you.
